A Lullable sleep story
The Lavender Harvest in Provence
A warm July night on the Valensole plateau in Haute-Provence, where most of the fields are lavandin, a hardier hybrid of lavender, and the harvest begins in the middle of the month. Mathilde's family has grown it for three generations. Luc, a perfumer's apprentice from Grasse, has come up for two weeks of the harvest to learn where the scent begins. The two of them are imagined. The plateau, and the harvest, are real.
Along the way, a long supper under a plane tree with bread and tomatoes and cold rosé, a bare foot touching an ankle under the table, a copper still breathing in a barn, golden oil falling drop by drop, a fingertip of it touched to the inside of a wrist, and a walk between waist-high rows under the Milky Way.

So breathe in, slowly. And let it go. And let us begin. The…
Why this one works at night
Scent is the sense closest to memory, and this story is built out of it: lavender, woodsmoke, warm stone, oil on skin. Everything moves at harvest pace, row by row, drop by drop. There is nothing to watch for, only a warm night that goes on getting quieter, and a field that will still be there in the morning.
A pilot, and where to hear it

Arthur from Ludlow is a synthetic voice, made with Google's Gemini text-to-speech. The story is for adults; it is romantic and warm, and it fades to black.
